We are both showing our age however, the good thing about me Ford is that at least she can have new bits relatively easily, me on the other hand………
I think it is, “A Till Death Do US Part” scenario if I’m honest. Even if I had the money, I would still keep the Olde Ford. Style and character, comfort, an elegant old lady that deserves dignity and she does often get admiring looks wherever we go.
We don’t travel as far afield these days, and when we do a road trip, we usually pick the cooler seasons to do so. Driving around in 40C heat is not really that much fun even although the air-conditioning is very cold indeed.
2004
I would love to completely restore the Olde Ford. The lacquer is damaged over most of the body work, apparently many Ford cars of this era were using inferior lacquer, but then again, it is 28 years old. The driver’s seat is a little bit saggy and so I have tried to solve it by putting a seat cover on the base, but it just doesn’t feel right. I want to get it re-upholstered, but the local guy couldn’t even look at it for nearly 6 months and then he said that I would be cheaper buying a second hand one. I think I would rather stick with the devil I know, rather than buy another old seat and God knows whose arse has been sat on it. There is a place in Rocklea that I’ll pop into this week when I head up to Brisbane.
2017
Since returning from China, I have replaced many components and any niggly wee problems that have arisen have been dealt with. I’m on my second set of tyres, they don’t seem to last as long as they used too, mind you it’s only $500 for a set balanced and fitted. I’ll put the car in for a service on my return from my upcoming trip. Currently the cruise control is not working and I think I have isolated the cause, I think the brake switch might be faulty and so I’ll get them to check that out and hopefully that will resolve it.

So yes, if I had the cash I would completely restore me Olde Ford and you never know we both might still be going strong in another 28 years 😊
