Yesterday I caught up with Anne and Trevor at the Sanctuary Cove Country Club where there is a world class golf course and nearby the marina where a few weeks ago that had the boat show. This is a place for the wealthy but to be honest Arnie’s Restaurant at the country club has great food and is reasonably priced. 

Believe it or not i managed to eat my way through this delicious looking burger. It had everything on it and I savoured every mouthful. I had a bucket list for food for this trip and I’ve been ticking them off one by one because it will be some time before I have this much western food again. 

I’ve known Anne and Trevor for many years. We all met in the Penrith Leagues Club back around 1992 I think. They were both working there before me. I started working in the bottleshop which I enjoyed. They needed some muscle to move the beer and wine and so they employed me. The shop was run by a dodgy Egyptian called Joe, not his real name. 

Jenny got me the job there, she is quite a character. There was Lillian,Maureen,Debbie,Val,Dot and. So there was not a lot of testosterone in this department. There was also the TAB which is the bookies where you can bet on the dogs and horse racing from all over Australia.  So much money was spent here. I’ve seen many folk come in on a Friday straight from work and spend their pay packet. I’ve also paid out a lot of money, there were some guys that could just pick winner after winner and they say that the races were not fixed. It definitely wasn’t just down to luck that’s for sure. 

One of the  biggest races is the Melbourne Cup. I worked quite a few of them and one year we took over $65,000 in bets. 

But more on the club later. Today it was good to catch up with Anne and Trevor and I really can’t believe just how long a history we have together.

Trevor looks after the course here although in the past he looked after the Sawtell Golf Course. Anne likes horses and sometimes gives riding lessons but there are more stories about horse riding I’ll cover later.

As I mentioned before the marina is close by and if you have a spare  $5 million then you can buy this little run about. 

Many people live around the course and marina but it’s not a place I would like to live in but it’s a good place to visit. 

It was a good day. Good food, good location and of course good friends.
